Board wants an AI strategy by Q3. I have no idea what problem we are solving.
My board has decided we need an AI strategy. I have been handed it as a project. The honest truth is nobody has articulated what problem we are actually trying to solve — the board just knows competitors are talking about it and does not want to be left behind. I am now supposed to produce a strategy document in 8 weeks. I do not know where to start, what questions to ask, or how to avoid producing something that looks impressive and achieves nothing.
Background
B2B professional services, 60 people. No current AI tooling beyond individuals using ChatGPT informally. No dedicated engineering team — we use a small dev shop for product work.
Already tried
Read three reports on AI strategy (all said start with use cases, none explained how). Talked to two AI consultants who both wanted to sell me something.
